List of Archdeacons of Essex
This is a list of archdeacons of Essex, a historical clerical post in charge of the Archdeaconry of Essex in the Church of England (and its predecessor the Church of Rome in England).
Brief history
Historically, the archdeaconry formed part of the Diocese of London, until the Victorian diocese reforms transferred it, on 1 January 1846, to the Diocese of Rochester. From 1877, the archdeaconry made up part of the newly-created Diocese of St Albans until it became part of the newly-created Diocese of Chelmsford in 1914.[1] Finally, on 15 March 1922, the Archdeaconry of Essex ceased to be when it was split into two: the Archdeaconries of West Ham and Southend.[2][3]
